Intro to Free Motion Quilting

Rockstar, I get it. You’ve tried before (and messed up the quilt), taken the in person class from the famous teacher (and still couldn’t figure out what you were doing by the time you got home), or shared the dream of a gorgeous quilting plan with a friend (and gotten shot down because FMQ is only for “professionals”), and you’ve just about lost hope that you can learn this free motion quilting thing.

I’ve been teaching FMQ online for years now and even though my first students were skeptical (and other teachers were even more so), I’ve watched thousands of women master these foundational designs and begin confidently quilting their own quilts on their home machines.

So c’mon— join the class, gather your supplies, and stitch with me so that, before you know it, you can be free motion quilting that languishing UFO and feeling like the ROCKSTAR I know you will become!

• Your home sewing machine (Truly— whatever you currently sew on. I began learning on a tiny off the shelf Kenmore. The most important thing is that your machine be in good working order)

• An FMQ or hopping foot (check with your dealer if you’re not sure what foot your machine needs for FMQ. If you have an off the shelf machine, you can probably order an inexpensive foot online)

• 3 Practice sandwiches (aka 6 fat quarters and 3 fat quarter sized pieces of cotton batting— I’ll show you how to baste these into sandwiches inside the course)

• High quality cotton thread (Aurifil 50 wt is my go-to)

• Size 14 and 16 needles (universal or top stitch)

• Quilting gloves (I like the Fons & Porter ones)

• Paper and pen (or pencil)
